چکیده
The purpose of this application is to conserve the current universal understanding and usage of the specific names of Macronectes giganteus (Gmelin, [1789]) and M. halli Mathews, 1912, for the southern, antarctic and the more northern, subantarc-tic species of giant petrel respectively (family PRO-CELLARIIDAE).The namegiganteus (type species of the genusMacronectes Richmond, 1905) was based on a description of the second species. It is proposedthat a neotype forgiganteus be designated. Comment or advice on this Application is invitedfor publication in theBulletin and should be sent to the Executive Secretary, I.C.Z.N., c/o The Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, U.K. Opinion 1687.Phorusrhacos Ameghino, 1887 (Aves,Gruiformes): not suppressect.Opinion 1688. Riversleigh, north-western Queensland, with estimates of body weights for fossil thylacinids
An eighth genus and twelfth species of Tertiary thylacinid is described. This new taxon represents the seventh member of the family from the fossiliferous Carl Creek limestones of Riversleigh, north-western Queensland. Although plesiomorphic within Thylacinidae regarding most features and lacking synapomorphies that unambiguously unite it with specialised taxa within the family, it possesses tw...
متن کاملThe identification of Oligo-Miocene mammalian palaeocommunities from the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, Australia and an appraisal of palaeoecological techniques
Fourteen of the best sampled Oligo-Miocene local faunas from the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, north-western Queensland, Australia are analysed using classification and ordination techniques to identify potential mammalian palaeocommunities and palaeocommunity types. Abundance data for these faunas are used, for the first time, in conjunction with presence/absence data. An early Miocene Faun...

Characterization of polymorphic microsatellites in the logrunner, Orthonyx temminckii (Aves: Orthonychidae)
We isolated and characterized 10 polymorphic microsatellite loci in the logrunner ( Orthonyx temminckii ), a rainforest-dwelling Australian bird. The number of alleles per locus observed within two populations ranged from three to 39, with observed heterozygosities of between 0.12 and 1.00. We demonstrate that these markers are useful for both populationand individual-level analyses.
متن کاملHammer-toothed 'marsupial skinks' from the Australian Cenozoic.
Extinct species of Malleodectes gen. nov. from Middle to Late Miocene deposits of the Riversleigh World Heritage Area, northwestern Queensland, Australia are enigmatic, highly specialized, probably snail-eating marsupials. Dentally, they closely resemble a bizarre group of living heterodont, wet forest scincid lizards from Australia (Cyclodomorphus) that may well have outcompeted them as snail-...
